Identification

Barbel

Streamlined torpedo shape body. brown flanks, rounded nosefour barbules hanging from upper lip.                                                                   British Record : 19lb 6oz 8dr

Bream

Bronze colour, slimy flanks, forked tail and protuding mouth. smaller bream retain the shape but are silver in colour and are commonly referred to as skimmer bream.                 British Record : 18lb 15oz

Carp

Large dorsal fin, two long barbules at the corners of the mouth. common carp have small evenly spaced scale's. mirror carp have large shiny scale's . leather carp are completely smoothand have no scale's at all.                British Record : 61lb 7oz

Chub

Convex dorsal and anal fins. large mouth and brassy colured flanks. the anal and pelvic fins are orange in colour.                                    British Record : 8lb 10oz

Crucian

Small fully scaled , deep golden colour,large ventral fin often confused with brown goldfish.    British Record : 4lb 8oz

Dace

Narrow pointed head yellow eyes, silver flanks and bellies. with grey olive green backs. anal &pelvic fins are tinted pink.                        British Record : 1lb 5oz 2dr

Eel

Unmistakeable, snake like and covered in slime.

Perch

Large spiny dorsal fin, dark vertical stripes on body. blood red fins on lower body.

Pike

Elongated body with camouflage type markings on flanks large flattened head and very sharp shape.                                                           British Record : 46lb 13oz

Roach

Silver flanks, red eyes, red/orange fins. upper lip protrudes slightly over the lower lip. front edge of dorsal fin is in line with the base of the ventral fin.                                                               British Record : 4lb 3oz

Rudd

Golden flanks. deep red fins. bottom lip protrudes beyond the top lip. front edge of dorsal fin is behind the base of the ventral fin.          British Record : 4lb 10oz

Tench

Green flanks, red eyes and large paddle fins, has two barbules on the upper lip.               British Record : 15lb 3oz 6dr
